The Story of Prophet Zakariya (A.S.) in English

Prophet Zakariya (A.S.) was a beloved messenger of Allah. He was sent to guide the people of Bani Israel, calling them toward the worship of one true God. He was known for his piety, humility, and patience.

Prophethood and Responsibilities of Zakariya (A.S.):

Prophet Zakariya (A.S.) was a descendant of Prophet Imran and belonged to the lineage of Prophet Sulaiman (A.S.). He served as a guardian and caretaker of Bayt al-Maqdis (Al-Aqsa Mosque), leading people in prayer and inviting them to follow the path of righteousness.

Prayer for a Child:

Despite reaching an old age, Prophet Zakariya (A.S.) had no children, and his wife was barren. He earnestly prayed to Allah:

“O my Lord! Grant me, from Your grace, a pure offspring. Indeed, You are the Hearer of supplication.” (Surah Aal-e-Imran: 38)

Allah accepted his sincere supplication, and an angel appeared, giving him the glad tidings of a son who would be named Yahya (A.S.).

The Birth of Yahya (A.S.):

By Allah’s command, even in his old age, Prophet Zakariya (A.S.) was blessed with a son, Prophet Yahya (A.S.). Yahya (A.S.) grew up to become a great prophet, devoted to spreading Allah’s message.

The Martyrdom of Zakariya (A.S.):

Over time, the people of Bani Israel became corrupt and strayed from Allah’s guidance. They opposed Prophet Yahya (A.S.) due to his commitment to truth and ultimately killed him.

Following this, their hostility turned toward Prophet Zakariya (A.S.). When they sought to kill him, he took refuge inside the hollow of a tree. However, by Allah’s will, the tree split open, revealing him to his enemies, and they brutally martyred him.

Lessons from His Life:

The life of Prophet Zakariya (A.S.) teaches us patience, perseverance in faith, and the power of supplication. It reminds us that Allah tests His beloved servants but ultimately raises their ranks in honor.
