Abubu Ubaida ibn al-Jarrah (R.A.) was one of the most prominent companions of the Prophet Muhammad (ﷺ) and among the ten who were promised Paradise (Ashara Mubashshara). Born in the Quraysh tribe of Mecca, he embraced Islam early, through the efforts of Abu Bakr (R.A.).
Early Life and Conversion to Islam:

He fought against his own father, who was on the side of the Quraysh, and ultimately killed him in battle, proving his unwavering dedication to Islam.
In the Battle of Uhud, he was one of the companions who defended the Prophet (ﷺ) when the tide turned against the Muslims. He removed metal rings from the Prophet’s face with his teeth after he was injured, losing two of his own teeth in the process.
The “Amin” (Trustworthy) of This Ummah:
The Prophet Muhammad (ﷺ) gave him the title “Amin al-Ummah” (The Trustworthy of the Nation) for his honesty, integrity, and devotion.
Role During the Caliphate:
Under the caliphate of Abu Bakr (R.A.) and Umar (R.A.), Abu Ubaida played a key role in expanding the Muslim state. He led military campaigns in Syria and was appointed as the governor of the region. His leadership was marked by humility, fairness, and compassion for his people.
During the conquest of Damascus, his strategic brilliance and firm belief in Allah’s help were evident. Despite holding a position of authority, Abu Ubaida lived a simple and modest life, embodying the true spirit of Islam.
Death and Legacy:
Abu Ubaida passed away in 639 CE during a plague that struck Syria (the Plague of Amwas). He remained a guiding figure for the Muslim community until his last breath, reminding them of their duties toward Allah. His burial site in Jordan is a place of reverence for Muslims worldwide.
